Toni Portmann: Collaborating Remote Workforce with Revolutionary Digital Workplace Solutions
Toni Portmann: Collaborating Remote Workforce with Revolutionary Digital Workplace Solutions Walkabout Workplace is the world’s only SaaS digital workplace and school platform. It connects employees to companies and students to schools, making them feel present, even when they are remote.

Walkabout is a virtual real estate, a multi-dimensional place, and an online platform that unifies various communication tools (video, audio, chat, screen share) by providing users with the ability to integrate and access their favorite applications and technology tools in Walkabout’s virtual, custom-designed “office space and classrooms.” Walkabout Workplace creates a “place” where individuals and teams can work together even if they are distributed or remote. A unique “heads-up display” provides visibility to individuals, teams and work, enabling users to see in real-time, who is “in the office” or “at the school”. Users can even spontaneously connect through high-quality video, voice, chat, and screen sharing. They can teleport from office to office, classroom to the auditorium, boardroom to the team room, and even to a café or a breakroom. It makes an individual feel like being at the office, the conference or at school.   An Experienced Business Leader Toni Portmann is the Co-founder and CEO of Walkabout Workplace. With over 35 years of leadership experience in board and executive management, Toni has spent her career in technology-centric companies, ranging from SaaS, PaaS, Cyber, GDPR, software and hardware to support and services. Her corporate leadership includes building six companies as their CEO. Tony has held executive positions in Fortune 100 companies, including IBM Corporation and Diebold, Inc. She has also served on public, private, and non-profit boards in the roles of Chairman of the board as well as Chair of nom/gov; compensation and strategic planning committees.   Building a Digital Workspace Walkabout is creating a new category: PLACEWARE. The company innovates the future of working, learning and living in a new ‘post-Covid hybrid world’ by creating a place where work gets done by enabling collaboration and co-creating with people who are connected to their colleagues, community and their world. Walkabout does this by understanding and transforming the world of virtual work to be optimized through its unique approach to PLACE.   Reinventing Workplaces Through People and Technology According to Tony, a leader’s role has changed dramatically, but disruptive technologies like AI and AR need to be leveraged to maximize the return on human capital. She says companies must keep the human in the technology so that they don’t make people feel like red, yellow, green dots on a tool. Companies also don’t let a machine do critical thinking and transformation as businesses often ignore the massive capability of the most important machines on the planet: the human brain and the human heart, driving passion and productivity by leveraging what technology can do for a person.   Facing Challenges Head-on to Stand Out Challenges are merely opportunities. Toni’s first career milestone was that she was a self-made country girl who ran away from home at 14; ran her own business at 15, and learned that fear was ‘false evidence appearing real’. “I had to figure out a way to put myself through college and have faith and trust in others, learn from the best, apply what fits, and care about the ‘system producing the result’,” Toni asserts.   Shaping Success with Ambitious Approach Toni has always surrounded herself with A+ players who are committed and aligned to a common vision and purpose, and execute results with excellence. She believes that “what gets measured, gets managed” and “what gets rewarded, gets repeated.” She further emphasizes that definable, repeatable and measurable processes create optimal output. Resiliency and ‘never giving up’ as well as ‘playing to strengths’ and ‘swimming in your own lane’ with trust and confidence in the committed team have helped Toni to become successful.   The Connected Future of Workspaces Toni believes that the world we see will exist globally, seamlessly and interactively. People will be able to interact, work, learn, exchange, and thrive from a Walkabout environment that connects individuals to a culture and community to provide the optimal environment for creation.   Empowering Future Leaders Toni stresses that transformational leaders should know their ‘why’ and lead with vision. They must adapt to change, take risks and be proactive as well as trust but verify, inspire others to be their best self and align with a purpose greater than themselves. For emerging women leaders, Toni says women don’t need to compete and compare with others. They need to offer support, not criticism. They must play to strengths and surround themselves with people that make them better, faster, stronger and smarter. Women leaders should also demonstrate their strengths with grace and kindness (people don’t care how much a leader knows until they know how much he/she cares). They must pose trust, take risks, walk the talk and produce results as well as be available to serve others. Moreover, women leaders must take care of their family, friends, community as well as themselves, and most importantly, have fun.
